Former Tenant: 2020 - 2020

Pros:

The staff in the building are great and the lobby, hallway and amenity space look nice as they finished the gut renovation last year (2019).

Cons:

Don’t be fooled. I chose “The Capitol” because it looks nice and they said they haven't had an issue with Cockroaches and other Bugs. LIE!!!

I pay premium for my 1 bedroom apt to stay away from Roches and other bugs yet I saw 5 Cockroaches in my unit and public space (dead and alive). FYI: I am extremely clean, organized and carry minimal life style.

Also, I found out last year they had 2 cases of BED BUGS in the building and I see exterminator often in the building as well.

I hate doing this but if I have read something like this while I was apartment hunting I would have never wasted my time there and I'm sure many feel the same. I will never live in this Building ever again.

It was disgusting so I terminated the lease and left after several months.

Photos upon request.

Cons:

The Capitol was a great building when I moved in 3 years ago. Since my most recent lease renewal, Bozzuto management has completely ruined what used to be a nice place to live. The elevators have been being "modernized" for over a year, leaving at least one elevator not running at all times. The new elevators that have been completed are no faster than the old ones and still break down constantly. I have been late to meetings because it takes 20 minutes to get to the lobby during the morning rush hour. They redid the rooftop last year (and did a great job I will say), but in the process damaged the facade of the building. So now the rooftop is not going to be open at all in 2018. They shut down the gym for renovations for 3 months this winter, and the new gym is no bigger or better than the one they tore up. They are also redoing the lobby and hallways on every floor, so during the day if you do happen to be home it is extremely noisy and there are construction workers taking up the elevators all day. I am moving out, and judging by the vacancies listed a lot of others have left as well. I would encourage anyone looking at this building to consider one of the other similar buildings in the area before the Capitol, as it's currently a miserable place to be a resident.

Cons:

I have lived in 5 buildings in New York city and this is by far the worst. Since moving in a year ago they have torn up the lobby, gym, rooftop, individual floors, and elevators. There are 300 apartments and I have never experienced having all 4 elevators working at the same time. I have also experienced 20+ times where I have waited between 10 and 20 minutes for an elevator to bring me to the lobby. This would be slightly bearable if the management company didn't also decide to gut renovate the ENTIRE building while they also update the elevators. They moved the package room to a floor that requires an elevator and have workers using the elevators causing more congestion than a NYC subway car. I would recommend anyone who is looking at this apartment to look elsewhere! While the renovations are going on we continuously get updates about dust disrupting the elevators (something a smart management company would have thought of). I have also overheard multiple current residents complain about all of these issues and want to take action against the building and management company. The Capitol at Chelsea and Bozzuto management seemingly decided to renovate every aspect of an 18 year old building with absolutely no plan or foresight into issues that could arise and the pain and anger they would cause their residents.

Cons:

A true Eye sore!! If you enjoy getting stuck in elevators then this building is for you!!! Moved to this building for the beauty of the views on the roof deck and views in apt. There is no longer a roof deck- It is Closed indefinitely ! *False advertising of a roof deck. The doggie floor and the gym were ripped out without notice. The entire building is a war zone/ construction zone with Sheet rock flying through the air! The Carpeting is ripped up and it's now an old glue stained floor. There is Constant noise, constant aggravation, and disgruntled residents. Water gets turned off. You need to walk down flight of stairs while construction is going on. The Wallpaper is ripped off the walls and has been left undone for weeks- We are seriously living in a complete eye sore. It's embarrassing to live here. The Elevators are broken on a daily basis. The line for the elevator is 20 deep and at least 20 minutes to get an elevator. People run for elevators, or walk up many many flights. Residents are stuck in elevators frequently. We were stuck 3 times! We had to be rescued by fire department The building super is never available. He is never on site on weekends.. ever!!!He walks through the building incognito and his wife is *super nasty. Had the displeasure of being stuck in an elevator with her. Can't wait to move out!!

Cons:

The worst building I have ever had the displeasure of living in. Poor management and zero consideration for tenants. The elevators are terrible; expect long wait times. The laundry room has been moved down into the bowels of the building and it's a hike to get down there. Machines are constantly out of service (like the elevators) and no one in management actually cares enough to have them serviced in a timely manner. Hallways are in the process of being renovated so elevators do not run on those floors. The roof will be closed throughout the summer. I wish I had known all of this before signing my lease. Consider moving into this building in about a year.

Cons:

If you're considering moving here, don't. The elevators haven't functioned properly for the last 16 months. Today, the elevator call buttons weren't working (again) on the upper half of the building. Management didn't notify anyone. And when I called the office, it went straight to voicemail. If you can't walk 30+ flights, you're trapped. And upon renewing contracts they include a clause that says you can't sue or break the contract because of the elevators. Additionally, they are constantly "renovating" so if you're home between 8-5 you'll hear construction. Honestly, they don't really care about residents or their complaints. Nobody on my floor has stayed since I moved in. At least for another year or two, I'd look elsewhere until they get their act together.

Cons:

If you want to live in a building where you need to walk down the stairs everyday because you are tired of waiting 5, 10, or even 15 minutes for the elevator, this is the building for you!! Management continues to apologize for inconveniencing us, and says the brand new lobby will make it all worth it, but we (the tenants) do not care about how the lobby looks -- we care about elevators that work properly!!!

Pros:

When we moved to NYC, we wanted to live in the Flat Iron near Chelsea and when we toured the Capitol, we knew we were home. Lots of great restaurants right there on the block, a Fairway grocery store across the street, a Whole Foods an avenue away, three movie theaters in walking distance, a short walk to Union Square Farmer's Market, and nearby subway stations to every part of the city make Capitol Chelsea the perfect location. Even though it's a large building, the solid construction make it a quiet place to get away from the noisy city. Surprisingly, for a large building, we never heard our neighbors or their dogs unless they were in the hallway. A huge perk is the spectacular view from the rooftop! It's definitely one of the best in the city as you can see from the Hudson to the East River and all the sites in between including the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State. The sunsets from up there are breathtaking. Great gym! Fun monthly get-togethers! All the aforementioned make the Capitol a great place to live, but the best part is the top notch staff---from the friendly doormen to the responsive maintenance crew to the efficient managers, all great people. Current renovations to the elevators, lobby, and hallways will update an already nice building. Love this place!

Cons:

The elevators are always either broken or being renovated, making wait times up to 10 minutes!! During busy hours, there is a line in the lobby to get on an elevator! We can't go on the roof, because they've spent months upgrading it. This building was luxury before they started trying to add unnecessary amenities. We should be refunded; we are not getting what we pay for.

Pros:

We LOVED living here! Our apartment looked onto the Empire State Building and I can't tell you how many nights I spent sitting on my couch, by my window, just admiring the views. Speaking of the views, you can't beat the roof of The Capitol. We celebrated the 4th of July up there and despite the cold listened to the roar of the crowd when the ball dropped on New Year's Eve. The entire staff was friendly and made sure that all repairs were made within 24 hours. We will also miss the holiday parties and the occasional Wine Down Wednesdays. I will never forget my experience living at the Capitol. Nothing beats the location. You are steps away from the best dining and all the "amazingness" that Chelsea has to offer.
