Cons:

Poor Value for the MoneyI lived at the Parc Cameron for a year. It was my first New York apartment, having moved to the city from Chicago. It was a great location--a block from Central Park and close to public transportation. The super and the door staff were friendly and helpful. Maintenance requests were resolved quickly. I worked with a broker, so I paid a finder's fee, even though the building was advertised as "no fee". The leasing agent had warned me of construction noise when I viewed the apartment. She explained a city ordinance that mandated exterior maintenance on buildings of a certain vintage. This building had begun its life in the 1920s as a hotel. The apartments were essentially hotel rooms. There was no real kitchen, just appliances shoved into the space that formerly held the Murphy bed. The refrigerator and microwave were new, the stove was the original. There was one 3-foot closet in my tiny studio.I moved in at the beginning of the reconstruction phase. I worked from home as a freelancer. I woke up on numerous occasions to the sound of drilling outside my wall. I listened to scraping and spackling outside my window throughout the workday. I had expected this to last through the summer, but in fact, it went on well into the New Year, altogether about eight months of constant noise. Admittedly, if I had worked a regular office job, I never would have heard it. Complaints to the management went unresolved. The management office was located in another of the Equity buildings, in another part of the city. At one point, I went to speak personally to the property manager, who promised to compensate me for lost productivity. I never received anything. There was really poor sound insulation between apartments. I could hear my neighbor turn the pages of his newspaper. I overheard entire conversations from the couple on the opposite wall. They were new emigrated from South America and smoked marijuana constantly, which wafted into my apartment through the bathroom vent. The windows had no screens or storm windows. During a heavy rainstorm, it actually rained inside my apartment with the windows closed. During the winter, there was frost inside my windows. The common laundry room was the only amenity the building provided. Though I never saw roaches in my apartment, they were abundant in the laundry area. There were only seven washers and five dryers for the entire building, and at any given time, only three of the washers were functional. A couple of months before I moved out, the management replaced all of the washers and of course, raised the laundry rates. The hallways were covered with an institutional brown paint. The carpeting was always dirty and frayed. The internet wiring was literally stapled to the walls. For a high-rise building, I was very surprised there was no trash shoot. Instead, the garbage was deposited in open trash cans in the stairwell. Many of the long-standing residents had been grandfathered with rent control from the previous management. Their rent was about half of my own. I have never paid so much money for such a crappy place. When I received my lease renewal notice, they were going to raise my rent $200 a month. So I cancelled my lease. When I saw the apartment listed on their website, they were offering it for much less than they would have charged me to renew. Why stick it to your loyal tenants? Bottom line: you can do much better somewhere else, even with Equity. They manage much better properties in Brooklyn or Jersey City for the same price or less.

Pros:

Coming from previous pre-war buildings, this is by far one of the nicest. The build is kept clean and orderly. The staff is amazing, they provide such a warm friendly environment. Every interaction from the concierge, to the porters and the handyman. Any issue that may arise, the staff is prompt, and dependable. Thank you Parc Cameron staff, for making me so comfortable.

Pros:

Parc Cameron can be a great place to live if you go in with realistic expectations. I lived there during a period of financial uncertainty in my life and it was perfect. it was the absolute best deal which checked off all of the following: (1) prime location - UWS proper 1/2 a block away from CP, it doesn't get any better (2) doormen/elevator - need someone to take those freshdirect deliveries! (3) $2,300 for a studio with a walk-in closet (at the time) (4) 15 minute online application process which did not require me to submit months of paystubs, account statements and all that usual NYC BS. The staff of the building, including Max the super and all doormen are super nice and helpful. No complaints here, loved them.

Cons:

With that said, this is not a true luxury building. Zero amenities. It is quite dated. My apartment came renovated with new floors and stainless appliances, but they didn't re-do the bathroom which looked like 30 years old or something. But not all apartments in the building are renovated to the same standard though, some have very old appliances and parquet floors. The hallways feature this horrendous brownish color which begins to be depressing after a while. There are wires and cables hanging from the ceiling (I could never figure how this isn't a fire hazard but I guess not). As most old buildings, it definitely has roaches. Garbage is collected in large bins that sit semi-open in the stairwells, which definitely contributes to the problem. Overall, the building looks unkept and dirty. I would stress that this isn't the fault of the building's staff. It is just very old and the way it is setup. Also, the windows are very old and offer very poor insulation. I was freezing my ass off the entire winter thanks to two large windows in my apartment. The wind was blowing right through them. Winterization only partially helped. And lastly, and my biggest pet peeve with this place, is that they charge all these fees separately, such as boiler, hot water, sewage and I don't even know what else. This is extremely annoying to keep track because the amounts are different every month. So, your apartment ends up being in fact more expensive than advertised rent because of this (most other buildings include these in rent), and you have to figure out the amount each month. Seriously, ER, wrap those stupid charges in the rent already!!

Pros:

The building staff is all very helpful and things get done very quickly.

Cons:

However, they are awful with renewals and the building is way overpriced generally. Only move in if you need something for just one year. They increase your rent insanely every year, claim that it's because of the market, when it really isn't. I was renting a one bedroom and the renewal rate was $3,500. When I gave notice, they posted it on their website for $3,195, without ever offering me that rate.No respect for their current tenants.

Pros:

I love living here. The front desk team Francisco Juan, and Marisol are all great, friendly, and always helpful. Any time I've made a service request it was done the same day. The building is always kept clean and the location is amazing. Tons of restaurants on Columbus and 1/2 block from Central Park. Conveniently located right next to the C and B trains and an avenue from the 1. It's a great place to live.

Pros:

Parc Cameron is conveniently located. The new manager, Nelson, sets a friendly, helpful tone, and he has consistently gone out of his way to address any concerns or confusion on my part. Because I've arrived to New York all the way from the Left Coast, I am especially grateful for his help. The tone he sets is reflected in the entire staff and they are very pleasant! When you ask for help at Parc Cameron (light bulb change, etc.) it happens quickly and efficiently.

Pros:

Beautiful, newly renovated and amazing location. Buildings away from Central Park west, central park and B/C trains. 2.5 avenues from 1 train. The super Max is great. He is one of the most reliable supers I've had while living in NYC. The doorman/doorladies are super friendly, professional and helpful. The laundry room was recently redone and is clean and maintained. I'm not sure about these reviews before as we have 0 bug problems and building offers spraying. Our apartment is a decent size for NYC yet there are larger ones available in building if you want to pay the additional rent for them. Our apartment was completely redone. New cabinets in kitchen, counter tops, doors, bathroom sink, tub and all details match. Seriously can't pass up these apartments as they are also pet friendly. My dog enjoys the uws, the park and parc camron.
