Leasing office was pleasant to deal with. My main concern is based on the negative reviews I've read on
here about the deposits being withheld. My apartment definitely uses space well, and I'm in an alcove
studio. It's fairly small in square footage but doesn't feel that way because they've managed to use the
space to it's maximum function- it feels more like a home and less like the box shaped studio I used to live
in.

A major, major, major deterrent that's been repeated here, and something I didn't really consider until experiencing it for myself, is the noise. These walls are PAPER THIN. Yes, I do have obnoxious neighbors, but that is not an excuse to hear my neighbors above me through the duct that connects to my apartment. I never really took noise into account because it's nyc, what can you expect... crickets?
My old apartment was considerably better in regards to acoustics. You can hear everything from the elevator dinging (and I'm far away from it on my hall), to people floors above talking. Management, from my experience, hasn't been very effective in addressing this and more or less has proposed illogical resolutions to rearranging my furniture rather than choosing to address the concern from a community standpoint. This place does get rowdy and I question if management is on top of that, because noise complaints are round the clock here.

The leasing office is a bully. I lived here for four years, in my fourth I moved to a new apt, they failed to disclose hidden flaws in the apartments like for instance the fact that the AT&T building outside makes so much noise you can't hear yourself talk inside the apt if you open your windows. Sounds exactly like a helicopter taking off. And I am on the 19th floor, so I can only imagine what it's like for people below.
Despite acknowledging that they failed to disclose it and that it is real issue and nuisance, they still made it practically impossible for me to move without losing my security deposit and incurring all the fees of moving. THEY ARE TRUE BULLIES!

Mercedes House is a scam, no matter whether they call it Instrata Mercedes House or Instrata Hell's Kitchen. Changeing the name doesn't make them less shameful of themselves. I lived in an apartment at Instrata Hell's Kitchen for a year, and I never want to deal with Instrata again.

Before renting the apartment, I was told explicitly that I could get 1 month free, if I rented it for 11 months. It turned out that I should rent it for 12 months instead of 11 months to get the free month.
They just lied about everything to get you sign the contract. When I rented the apartment, I was told that I could put a full wall in the living room. However, I was told that it wasn't the case, after I moved in.

Very similar scam happened when I was moving out. When they were doing the move-out inspection, they told me that I only need to pay for painting parts of the wall in the living room. And they asked me to sign a blank move-out inspection form. Several weeks later, I found out that they took $1500 out of my $5595 deposit!! They included the charge of replacing the floor in the apartment, in addition to painting the wall. The black move-out inspection form was filled with lots of charges with my signature on it. I was wondering why they didn't renovate the entire apartment and keep all my deposit.

The community manager was Enredi Shtylla. And he even threatened to take more from my deposit, after I confronted him about this issue. The building and location are great, but it doesn't even compensate the shameful and lying community management at Instrata. Such a shameful management team at Instrata. Have trusted these people, never should I.

Recently toured the building and the Mercedes House sets the gold standard for NYC living! Top notch customer service, management is dedicated to excellence and efficiency. Building is aesthetically pleasing, and the amenities they offer provide a pleasurable experience! Highly recommended!

Lived here for a year in a 1BED 1BATH corner unit. I have lived around in several buildings becoz I have had to move around for various reasons. This is by far the BEST service I have ever received. The handy man is available all days a week which isa huge deal...

We had invited friends for dinner in peak summer time and felt that our AC was not cooking enough, we were contemplating calling the handy man coz we dint want to be in the middle of AC change when the guests arrive. But it was getting so hot that we eventually had to, and they changed in literally 10 mins.....
Another time, the battery went off for our fire alarm on a Friday late night and it started beeping. To our surprise the came by immediately and fixed it.
Again that we had friends over who live in silver towers and they were amazed at the service .

Extremely friendly staff and great Mercedes club and the convenience of the Mercedes store is unbelievable

I can say a million things about Mercedes House but one phrase that summarize it is that is a home away from home. An incredible building, beautifully designed and with the best amenities that I've ever encountered included fantastic classes and instructors. Plus a fantastic sense of community and a building full of beautiful people. The personnel from the manager, Herminio to everyone in the property are attentive, detailed oriented, always willing to help and very courteous. So bad I only had to live there for a year.

I don't know why this building has so many bad reviews. I live on the 53rd side.
The doormen are great, if anything breaks, they fix it the same day. Never heard any noises coming from neighboring apartments. Never saw brown water coming out of my faucet either. Yes, the garage is too expensive, $500, and if you want to bring a friend to the gym, they charge them $50. Also too much.
The common space has all glass doors which leak when it rains and let a lot of cold air in, so problematic in winter. And the subway is far but there is,a city bus stop right in front of the door. In the summer I take Citibike. 20 minute ride downtown along the Hudson River., which is 1 block away

Came and took a tour as a prospective tenant. Yelp has confirmed my suspicions on MH. I was shocked at all the xtra fees. Want to use gym- they'll say just $99 a month. Oh you mean per person, not unit. How silly you didn't mention that. Pet? $500 deposit, $50/mo? Nickel and dime for everything. I'm a Newyorker and I can smell a gimmick a mile away. If you're trying to make it here in the city, believe me- Mercedes House is nothing but smoke and mirrors. Stay far away and don't be fooled.

There's a lot of things that are wrong with this place, and some things of course are nice. But the worst is that we get weed smell through our walls at least 5 times a week and management won't do anything about it. For all the things they can't do, I think making sure there's no odors or fire hazards around the residents should be something they are able to take care of.
