Former Tenant: 2017 - 2018

Pros:

Location. This place is a half a block to central park, on a wonderful tree lined street. The street is also pretty quiet for a NYC street. Every (other) building on the block is absolutely beautiful and it is a wonderful street to live on.

Cons:

Everything. John Schreiber, the building owner, is a complete slumlord. Our radiator would leak for 10 days before they would send a complete hack of a handyman to fix it, often making the problem worse. The handyman (Pete) uses duct tape as his primary fix it tool, and was smart enough to install cabinets 5 inches above the stove burners. We told him this was an obvious fire hazard and his response was "I installed these 7 years ago and the place hasn't burned down yet!" We had holes in our floor that they had promised to fix before we moved in and they never did anything about it. We had massive electrical problems and were on the phone with the NYC housing department all the time for things like mold, electrical issues, broken stair cases, etc.

I could write a novel about all the things that were wrong with this place. Under no circumstances should you rent in this building, even for the cost savings. Absolutely not worth renting any of the 14 buildings owned by this man.
